Peter Van Loan Re-Elected in York-Simcoe

"PVL" by  EFM
MP Peter Van Loan was easily re-elected for the third straight time last night in York-Simcoe. When asked about the election by John Goddard from the Toronto Star, he replied:
The biggest surprise locally was the weak Liberal effort, he said of the former Liberal stronghold.
“The two people who wanted this election most — Michael Ignatieff and Gilles Duceppe — those two were punished the most strongly,” Van Loan, trade minister in the last cabinet, said at the Lusitano banquet hall in Bradford.

This is, however, a Conservative stronghold - Van Loan had increased his massive lead over the other candidates before the polls had even closed! With 224 of  250 polls reporting, he had amassed 30,124 votes, which was already up from 27,412 in the last election!  Story and photos here.
Final results have him pegged at 33,614 followed by Silvia Gerl (NDP) with 10,180 votes! Liberal Cynthia Wesley-Esquimaux was third with 5,703. The field also included John Dewar (Green Party) with 2,851 votes, Vicki Gunn (Christian Heritage Party) 352 votes and Paul Pisani (United Party of Canada) with 157 votes.
The next question is: what's next for the former Minister of International Trade?
